CareerSource Palm Beach County developed this first of its kind program to assist individuals with unique abilities learn the fundamentals of lodging operations. Students earned two national certification from the American Hotel and Lodging Institute upon graduation. Through a combination of classroom-based and hands-on learning, students developed the industry-specific and soft skills needed to help support the 60,000+ Hospitality positions in Palm Beach County to assist with lowering the unemployment rate for individuals with disabilities, which is almost three times higher than for those without barriers to unemployment. Students also received assistance with their job search and were successfully placed in employment shortly after graduation. The Disability Services and Ticket to Work Department partnered with the SNAP and TANF case managers to use best practices to meet the needs of the diverse population they serve. With over two-thirds of its Ticket clients working at SGA level or above, CareerSource Palm Beach County continues to serve as a leader in the community. CareerSource Palm Beach County has been recognized by local and state organizations for its efforts to enhance the lives of individuals with unique abilities and participants have expressed how taking part in the program has positively impacted their lives by providing them with resources for personal and professional growth. County anticipates steady growth in the number of students and increasing the number of classes offered each year to have a continuous positive impact on the community by meeting the needs of its residents and employers.
